FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. Struwwelpeter was published in Germany in 1845 and translated into English in 1849 as “Shockheaded Peter” or “Slovenly Peter.” Due to its growing popularity amongst the English audience, numerous pastiches and additional stories were published soon after, including this early translation printed in America.
